Cicatricial Conjunctivitis in Lichen Planus: A Case Report

We presented a case of cicatricial conjunctivitis in a patient with cutaneous lichen planus (LP).
Case Report: A 42-year-old female with a history of cutaneous LP from 5 years ago presented with chronic cicatricial conjunctivitis, subepithelial fibrosis, and symblepharon. In the examination, cicatricial conjunctivitis with subepithelial fibrosis and symbelpharon was evident in both eyes. Conjunctival biopsy confirmed the conjunctival involvement of LP. Treatment with topical tacrolimus and corticosteroid for a 6-month period resulted in symptoms relief. No progression was observed during this period. Cicatricial conjunctivitis is a rare presentation of LP that should be considered in differential diagnosis of chronic cicatricial conjunctivitis. Treatment with topical corticosteroid and tacrolimus seems to be beneficial at least in short-term follow-up.
