he Place of Religious Experience in Suhrawardi’s Illuminationism Based on the Model of Philosophy as a Way of Life

Abstract:
Hadot believed quiddity and reality of ancient philosophy rooted in the experience of unification and mystical experience. In his opinion, the doctrines of philosophical schools were spiritual exercises designed to qualify the soul for the experience of the transcendent. Suhrawardi, like Hadot, founded the doctrines of illumination on the experience of the transcendent, intuition and illumination.
Given this similarity, and following the model of Philosophy as a Way of Life, this article investigated the place of religious experience in Suhrawardi’s Illuminationism to have a better understanding of his school. In conclusion, the paper argued the purpose of the School of Illumination was to introduce a comprehensive and practical plan to the audience to increase their understanding and to prepare them for the experience of a different life.
