Abstract:
The miracle of the Qur’an is among the issues that although is theologically rooted in early centuries and has entered the theological circle of topics since ca. 3rd century AH, there has been little discussion about Prophethood in which mention has been made on miracle. The focal feature of miracle from the viewpoint of theologians in general, is its being extraordinary. Taḥaddī (challenge) is also among the significant features that, along being extraordinary, make the differentia of a genus of the definition of miracle. Studying the verses related to the miracle of the Prophet Moses’ (A. S.) staff, we have indicated that the focal feature of miracle from the viewpoint of the Qur’an is the achievement of God’s knowledge in encountering with it. In continuation, with an emphasis on the Qur’anic wording of the verse and distinguishing between its external and internal aspects, we have concluded that firstly, the addressees of the verse are not experts; secondly, the miracle does not necessarily possess a strange, unprecedented, and unachievable appearance; rather, any of the Prophet’s actions and even his countenance can, by having the focal feature of miracle, be a Divine sign.
