The Current Persian Handwriting over Time

Abstract:
This paper deals with the origins of the present Persian handwriting which became popular in Iran after the conquest of the country by Arabs around 14 centuries ago. Several styles of Arabic calligraphy and those innovated by Iranians are mentioned. The methods applied by the scribes and their position in the society are also described. The paper ends with an account of the advent of lithoprints and the beginning of using printing machines in Iran
