Spiritual Health and its Relationship with Demographic Characteristics of Hemodialysis Patients

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE
In chronic diseases, the religious belief of the patient is at risk and the spiritual crisis arises in the person. The aim of this study was to determine the spiritual health and its relationship with demographic characteristics of hemodialysis patients in 2018.
METHODS
This cross-sectional study was conducted on 103 hemodialysis patients referred to the Razi Hemodialysis Center in Rasht and selected through a simplified random sampling. Data were collected using demographic characteristics and spiritual health questionnaires. The psychometrics of this questionnaire has been confirmed in the national studies. The data were analyzed through descriptive and analytical statistics (Mann-Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis) using SPSS 16, considering the significant level of P <0.05.
FINDINGS
The findings showed that the total mean score of spiritual health was 227.92 and its standard deviation was 19.01, indicating the high spiritual health among hemodialysis patients. The spiritual health was high among patients older than 60 years with college-level education, farmers, patients with a history of transplantation and a history of dialysis less than one year, income above 2.000.000 Tomans and without underlying disease. There was a significant difference between spiritual health with history of dialysis and income level (P <0.05).
CONCLUSION
In this study, the spiritual health level of patients was influenced by some demographic characteristics. Knowledge of the results of the current study can be considered by the managers to provide context for improving the spiritual health of patients through planning and providing the necessary arrangements.Keywords:
