A Study on the What of Prophecy

In this article, the words of prophecy and prophet and pertaining definitions given in theology, philosophy and terminology are expressed and compared. The definitions are also compared with those given in Christianity, Hinduism and Buddha, and the most reasonable one has been determined and supported. The best meaning for the word of the prophet is the same as the Persian equivalent payambar or peyghambar. Accordingly, the best definition of the prophet is: a human being prompted by God to mediate between him and the servants in order to reveal His message or Divine messages to guide them.
