The Relationship of the Feeling of Loneliness and Emotional Maturity to Students’ Social Adjustment

Message:
Abstract:
The present study was a descriptive – correlational study which sought to determine the relationship of the feeling of loneliness and emotional maturity to social adjustment in students. 235 students were selected from all(625) male tenth grade students of Senior Secondary Program studying in public high schools of Hashtgerd, Iran in the academic year 2016-2017, using the multistage cluster sampling method. The revised UCLA Loneliness Scale, the Emotional Maturity Scale, and the Social Adjustment Scale were implemented as the research instruments on each subject. The collected data were analyzed using the Pearson correlation coefficient, regression analysis, and SPSS. The findings suggested that there was a significant negative correlation between the feeling of loneliness and social adjustment (P<0.05) and a significant posi-tive correlation between emotional maturity and social adjustment (P<0.01). Results from the regression analysis showed that emotional maturity was a predictor of social adjustment in students. However, feeling of loneliness was demonstrated not to be a predictor of social adjustment in students.
