Mapping the cognitive structure and its evolution in "Knowledge and Information Science": text mining approach (2004-2013)

Abstract:
Purpose
The purpose of this study was to map and study the cognitive structure of the field of "Knowledge and Information Science" from the perspective of full text words or phrases, their distribution in journals, and their usage over time.
Methodology
Methodology of this study was content analysis of 6830 articles (2004-2013) in 10 core journals based on the JCR 2013. Parametric way of key extraction has been used to select 150 words and phrases according to their TF-IDF weight. Finally, the similarity matrix based on the Cosine theta index and the second-order affinity, is used to construct hierarchical clustering by average-linkage algorithm in "Provalis Research" software. Also, correspondence analysis was used to study concepts historic evaluation and to cluster the journals according to their subject domain.
Findings
The results of this study included 3 mature clusters, 1 semi-mature cluster and 3 immature clusters in co-word analysis and the thematic review reveal four clusters of journals and two time clusters in clockwise motion layout.
