A Research on the Manuscripts and Early Prints of a Number of Works by Greek and Roman Writers

One of the necessities of using historical writings is to know the time of writing and other characteristics of the manuscripts of those works. Greek and Roman writings are among the most important sources of Iranian ancient history;however,issues around their manuscripts are less heeded in Persian sources.The author has attempted to studysome characteristics of the aforementioned manuscripts and early editions of these works which are relevant to the history of Alexander and the Seleucids. Books such as Arian›s Anabasis, Plutarch›s Lives, Pliny›s Natural History, Polybius› Histories, Curtius Rufus› History of Alexander and Justinus› Epitome were studied. Moreover, information about these manuscripts and early editions of them are gathered and collected in the present article.
