The correlation between cigarette smoking and CPI index in Iranian 35-44 years old population

Abstract:
Background and Aim
Periodontal problem is common finding in smokers. The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between smoking and CPI in 35-44 years Iranian individuals. Method & Materials: Data of this study received from non – smokers past smokers and present smokers randomized. For matching this cases. The persons, who use drugs, need to refer and cure were omitted the age was divided to 35-37 and 42-44 years old. Whit Chi – square test the data was evaluated.
Results
The incidence of CPI score in 42-44 yrs. Was significantly related to smoking while this relation was non-significant in 35-37 yr age group. CPI was worser in past and present smokers and was related to the number of the smoking years duration. Number of cigarette per day was significantly related to CPI.
Conclusion
Present smoker who have higher age and use more cigarette daily have worse periodontal status.
