Histopathological Study of Otolithes ruber Eye Tissue in the Konarak, Beris, Pasabandar and Gowater Fishing Ports

Otolithes ruber from Sciaenidae is one of the most economic species of fishes in Gulf of Oman. In the present research histopathological study of the eye tissue of this species was investigated. Twelve specimens of this fish were captured from four fishing stations of Konarak’s Desalination Plant, Beris, Pasabandar and Gowater by hook and gill net. The eyes of each specimen were removed, and fixed in Bouin's solution. Eye tissues were dehydrated in serial diluted ethanol then embedded in paraffin and sections of 5μm in thickness were prepared, followed by staining with hematoxylin and eosin (H&E). Microscopic studies showed lesions such as edema, blood stains and vacuolation in different layers of the eye. Based on the results of this research, it could be stated that the fish captured from the Konarak station had the lowest tissue lesions compared with the other three stations.
