The Position of the City Councils in the Socialization of Iranian People Abstract: The councils have different political, social, and cultural functions. These functions in any society are influenced by the status of the economic situation, historical beliefs and requirements of the day. The councils in Iran have faced various challenges. With regard to the kind of council elections, the interaction of councils with all people, the presence of all classes of people in the councils, the massive presence of women in the councils, this popular institution has been able to raise awareness about citizens' political education, elite education, collective decisions, reduction of gender discrimination, change of attitudes toward women, and the presence of young people in decision-makers.
