Investigate the causes use and non-use of helmets among motorcyclists in Isfahan city

A large percentage of people in the country every year in traffic accidents caused by injured or become disabled, on the other hand, life years lost as a result of traffic accidents is very high. The aim of this study was to investigate the causes use and non-use of helmets among motorcyclists in Isfahan city.

This Cross- sectional research was performed on 150 motorcyclists in Isfahan city. Data was collected by using questionnaire, this questionnaire included demographic information, aware of benefits the use of helmets, and also the reasons for the use or non- use of helmets by motorcyclists. The data was analyzed by applying descriptive statistics and SPSS16 software.

The value for Cranach's alpha was obtained to be 0.68. The results showed that the most important the reasons for the non-use of helmets include feel uncomfortable, limited vision and inability to control the direction, feeling uncomfortable when sweating, sweating and feeling the heat and fatigue in head there were respectively.

According to the similar studies conducted in the country, it seems that the main reason for not using a helmet is not feel comfortable subjects. Furthermore, 72% of the subject main reasons for use of helmets safety reported the increased safety and reduce injuries, therefore, if notice the design and construction of data anthropometrics helmet head, feeling of sweats, feeling of heat and thermal comfort subjects perhaps the a large percentage of people could with comfortably without feeling dissatisfaction use of helmet and with appropriate design reduce damage and injuries percentage.
