The Relationship between Early Maladaptive Schemas and Avoidance Coping Behaviors with Anxiety of Death

The aim of this study was investigated the relationship between early maladaptive schemas and avoidance coping behaviors with anxiety of death between university students.

 The method of collecting data was cross-correlation and base on practical purpose. The population of studied consisted of 30714 students of Islamic Azad University of Karaj, which 379 students were selected by Cochran formula and stratified random sampling method. The method of data collection was based on three questionnaires: early maladaptive schemas questionnaire Young (1988), coping behaviors of avoidance YRAI (1994) and, death anxiety Collet-Lester (1969). The reliability was over 0.7 for all three questions. Data were analyzed by software SPSS 20 in two parts: descriptive and inferential statistics (Pearson correlation, multiple regression analysis, multivariate).

  Multivariate regression analysis showed that if early maladaptive schemas increase one unit and, avoidance coping behaviors decrease so, we will witness a significant increase in students’ death anxiety. In other words a significant relationship was revealed between early maladaptive schemas and death anxiety. Also there was an inverse relationship between avoidance coping behaviors and students’ death anxiety.
