Investigating the Female Police Mediating Role in Preventing Juvenile from Committing Delinquency (Case Study: Counseling and Social Work inGreater Tehran)
Restorative justice while securing interests of all crime victims seeks to provide them with the opportunity to recover and re-socialize and to prevent the recidivism of criminals through approaches such as using mediation means. The present study aims at explaining the female police mediating role in preventing juvenile from repetition of delinquency in police shelters and/or consulting and social services officers.
In terms of objective the present study is of applied type, and as far as nature is concerned it is of descriptive-analytic type. The tools used for data collection were interview and questionnaire. (N=18) The statistical population of the study consisted of police specialists and staff of the Greater Tehran Social Consulting and Social Services Office, and 18 people were selected by snowball method and 132 people were selected by simple random sampling method. Internal validity and recyclability methods were used to determine validity and reliability of the interviews, and content validity and Cronbach’s alpha test were used to determine the reliability and validity of the questionnaire. Primary data was analyzed using content analysis, and secondary data analysis was performed by statistical tests.
A total of 21 indicators were identified in the present study, and based on the theoretical literature in the sense of criminal responsibility with 7 indicators, feeling of criminal embarrassment with 7 indicators, and modification and acceptability with 7 indicators were categorized. The findings indicate that there is a significant difference (2.85) between the current and desired situation, components and indicators of female police mediation in preventing juvenile from committing delinquency.
The results indicate that improving the components and indicators identified in female police mediation, is a prerequisite for preventing juvenile from recommitting offenses. Among these, indicators of feeling ashamed on the part of delinquent people with average rate of 2.91 in the mediation of female police in preventing juvenile from committing delinquency is of great importance.
