Analyzing the Relationship between Social Capital and Crime Distribution in Urban Areas of Kermanshah City

The present study aims at analyzing the relationship between social capital and crime perception in urban areas of Kermanshah city. In terms of objective the research is of applied type, and as far as data collection method is concerned, it is of descriptive-survey type. The statistical population of this study was all 15 plus citizens in Kermanshah city. (N= 983764) and 402 persons selected by cluster random sampling, and were studied using Cochran formula. SPSS version 21 was used for analyzing data. The research findings show that there is a significant and inverse relationship between social capital and perception of crime distribution. The results of regression show that the value of T for social capital is (Sig.T = -0.5.63) and significance level (Sig.T = 0.000). Also, variables of education level and residence at the third stage, entered into the regression equation and these three variables together accounted for 0.41% of the internal variations of the dependent variable. It can be inferred that changes in the level and magnitude and severity of the components of social capital can influence the assumption of crime distribution in urban areas; and by enhancing the level of trust, social partnership, empathy and co-operation among citizens, proper law enforcement, and paving ground for social accountability, and ultimately, strengthening the common identities of citizens can be the basis for reducing crime rate and controlling it in the society.
