An Analysis of the Position of Contentment and its Functions in the Masnavi-ye Ma'navi (Rumi’s Spiritual Couplets) Based on Islamic Teachings

Message:
Abstract:
The main purpose of this study is to analyze the status of contentment and its functions in Masnavi-ye Ma’navi based on Islamic teachings. Accordingly, the basic content analysis research method was employed. In this regard and in light of the deep interdisciplinary relationship felt in the fields of humanities, particularly the religious sciences and Persian literature, and the study gap about the present writing, in addition to the in-depth study of Rumi’s Couplets as one of the great and distinguished literary, mystical and ethical texts, and adapting it with Islamic teachings, the common functions of the status of contentment were extracted using the basic content analysis research method. The most important components of the shared functionality are the factors of pure life, esteem creation, true treasure versus poverty, confrontation with stinginess and greed, genuine happiness and tranquility and the combined axis of trust (in God), sustenance and satisfaction. It is recommended that such comparative studies be continued to clarify important religious and ethical concepts.
