Abstract:
This study aimed to investigate the role of the dark traits of personality, material preoccupation and sorrow of being compared on the Deadly Sins. This study is a descriptive and correlational study. In this study, among all students of Birjand University in the academic year of 2017-2018, 566 students (254 male and 312 female) were selected by using cluster sampling method and completed the Deadly Sins scale, dark personality scale, material preoccupation subscale and Sorrow of being compared subscale. The Pearson Correlation Coefficient and multivariate regression Analysis were used to test the hypothesis of the study. The findings showed that sorrow of being compared, Machiavellianism and material preoccupation were predictors of wrath. Sorrow of being compared, Machiavellianism, material preoccupation and psychopathy were predictors of envy. Machiavellianism, Sorrow of being compared, psychopathy and material preoccupation were predictors of gluttony. Machiavellianism, material preoccupation and psychopathy were predictors of greed. Machiavellianism, sorrow of being compared and material preoccupation were predictors of lust. Machiavellianism, material preoccupation, psychopathy and sorrow of being compared were predictors of pride). Material preoccupation, sorrow of being compared, psychopathy and Machiavellianism were predictors of sloth. The findings of this study indicate the role of the Dark traits of personality, material preoccupation and the sorrow of being compared in the seven dimensions of the great sins. Therefore, one can reduce deadly sins by correcting and altering material preoccupation, sorrow of being compared, psychopathy and Machiavellianism.
