Psychometric properties of Behavioral Emotion Regulation Questionnaire in sample of adolescent students in Urmia city
The aim of Current research was to study the validity, reliability and factor structure of behavioral emotion regulation questionnaire in a sample of high school students.
Methodology of this study was survey and validation. A sample included of 508 high school students from Urmia city students were selected by multistage cluster sampling. To calculate convergent and diagnostic validity, we used depression, anxiety and stress scale (dass-21) and ryff's scales of psychological well-being (RSPWB-18). Structural validity was evaluated through exploratory factor analysis by principal components analysis with varimax rotation and confirmatory factor analysis by maximum likelihood method. Reliability was assessed using Cronbach's alpha and retest methods and all statistical analyses performed by SPSS-25 and Lisrel-8/8softwares.
The results of exploratory factor analysis extracted five factor that explained 0/65 of the variance of all the questions and the confirmatory factor analysis also supports the five-factor structure of the behavioral emotion regulation scale. Cronbach's alpha coefficient for the subscales of seeking distraction, withdrawal, actively approaching, seeking social support and ignoring respectively 0/75, 0/84, 0/82, 0/81 and 0/78, and for the whole questionnaire 0/74 calculated and the test-retest coefficient for the whole questionnaire was 0/82. Also the correlation coefficients indicated good convergent and diagnostic validity.
Based on the findings, the behavioral emotion regulation questionnaire in high school students has appropriate psychometric properties.
