The Impact of the Unity of Islam Committee on the Political, Intellectual, and Military Developments of the Jangal Movement
One of the most important intellectual and political foundations of the Jangal Movement of Guilan was the ideology of the Unity of Islam. The Jangalis tried to employ Ottoman's support to downsize the pressure exerted by Russia and Britain. However, later in practice Kuchakkhan proved that he was not willing to ignore Iran's national interests to the benefit of the ideology of Ottomans. That said, the questions that arise are what motivations and aims were behind the alignment of the Unity of Islam Committee with the Jangal Movement, and what achievements this cooperation resulted in. The findings of this descriptive-analytical study, that takes a historical approach, show that the political and intellectual defeats of idealist and anti-alien constitutionalists on the one hand and the ever-growing dominance of Russia and Britain on the other hand brought about the Jangal Movement's enjoyment of economic, intellectual, and military supports of the Unity of Islam Committee with the support of German and Ottoman-leaning intellectuals and by the use of the ideology of the Unity of Islam. Despite the union between the Jangalis and the ideology of the Unity of Islam, Kuchakkhan founded his policies on the basis of Iran's independence. Yet, the cooperation of the members of this movement with the Unity of Islam Committee can be considered a political tactic adopted by them.
