Investigating the Psychometric Properties (validity and reliability) of the Harter children's self-perception profile
Perception of competence in children is defined as self-worth in important areas of life. The aim of this study was to investigate the psychometric properties (reliability and validity) Harter children's self-perception profile.
This research was a descriptive-analytic study of type validation. The sample consisted of 400 students (200 girls and 200 boys) who were selected by accident sampling method and completed the Harter children's self-perception profile, Coopersmith's self-esteem questionnaire, and the kinship center attachment questionnaire.
The findings of exploratory factor analysis revealed three factors that in total 73/20% of the total variance of the scale were explained. The results of confirmatory factor analysis, in addition to verifying the results of exploratory factor analysis, showed that these three factors are responsible for the overall factor of competence perception. The reliability of the questionnaire was obtained by Cranach’s alpha (0/89) and by the test-retest method (0/88). Also, there was a significant positive correlation between factors of this scale with self-esteem and secure attachment style of positive adaptive evolution Harter children's self-perception profile factors with insecure attachment styles, emotional response, negative behaviors and avoid verbal divergence of the scale confirmed.
The results of the study showed the Harter children's self-perception profile has good psychometric properties for measuring children's self-concept.
