Abstract:

Ashura is one of the most influential events in the history of Islam about which lots of books have been written. The analysis of Ashura studies is important for several reasons. One of these reasons is the analysis of attitudes and discourse types present in those studies. The historians who wrote about the Battle of Karbala have different views on how to narrate the event, analyze the warriors of Karbala and Imam Hossein’s supporters; this difference has led to the variety of reports about the event. Among the different reports on this event, the works of the Ayatis deserve considering. The existence of outstanding scholars and prominent writers in this family with their special attention to distortions of this event make the author choose the present study. Thus, the present study aims at analyzing the works of the Ayatis on Ashura using content analysis method. Typologically speaking, the findings indicate that the Ayatis had historical, emotional, mystical, supernatural attitudes in writing their works. Each of these attitudes has preference over the other attitudes depending on the event and the textual features.
