Examining Work Ethic among the Staff of a Health-Related Medical Center
Discussing the work ethic of individuals in the organization can be considered as an opportunity or a threat to the organization and its evaluation is essential. Therefore, the present study has identified and compared work ethic in different occupational groups of a health-related organization.
This descriptive-analytical survey study was conducted in 2018 in Tehran (Iran). The data collection tool was the Standard Ethics Questionnaire (OWEI) by Gregory C. Petty (1990) whose validity and reliability were also confirmed (Cronbachchr('39')s alpha 92%). SPSS software and descriptive and inferential statistics (analysis of variance and Friedman and Leven test) were used to analyze the data.
616 people participated in this study. The level of work ethic and its dimensions are different in all job groups and different organizational categories. Also, the level of adherence to work ethic and its indicators is higher among the upper levels of the organization than the lower levels. Employeeschr('39') work ethic score was 78.21%. Also, among all occupational groups, the index of attachment and interest in work had the highest rank and the index of collective spirit and participation had the lowest rank.
The results showed a high level of work ethic and each of its indicators in this medical center. According to the research results, increasing work ethic will lead to improved performance in the organization and alignment of people and activities.
