Abstract:

Train timetabling and track maintenance scheduling are two important problems in two different parts of railway, having different aims. Optimal timetabling of trains usually aims at decreasing delays, and the more the time of accessing the lines, the easier the scheduling. Rail transportation authorities tend to use the lines the most in a day. On the other hand, track maintenance operators are also trying to facilitate the implementation of the maintenance and repairing; therefore, they tend to have the lines closed more, so that the time of accessing the lines to do this process will be more. Therefore, to confront the contradiction, we must take steps toward modelling and solving train timetabling and track maintenance scheduling problems simultaneously. Due to the importance of simultaneous scheduling of train movements and track maintenance problems, in this paper, first, the previous studies about train timetabling problems considering track maintenance time are proposed, and then we have concluded the studies, and also some suggestions for future studies are presented.
