Investigating the opportunities of border markets in developing tourism (Case study: Border market of Mirjaveh)

Border markets, as one of the economic institutions, play an important and key role in the development and prosperity of tourism industry in border areas. In this research, we have studied the opportunities of border markets in developing tourism with a case study of the border market of Mirjaveh. Mirjaveh, one of the border cities of Sistan and Baluchestan province in the southeast of the country, shares a border with Pakistan. The border market of Mirjaveh has a high capacity and potential for developing tourism due to its special geographical location which is the first overland entrance in the southeast of the country for tourists. Therefore, the need to pay attention to the development of tourism and the proper management of border markets plays an important role in the economic development of border people. The results of this study show that using the opportunities of the border markets of Mirjavah, in the field of developing tourism, creates the direct and indirect employment for indigenous youth in the region, reduces unemployment, reduces the smuggling of goods and fuel and, also, prevents the migration of border people. Of course, the existence of appropriate facilities and infrastructure plays an important role in achieving these goals. This study in terms of purpose and method is applied and descriptive-analytical, respectively, and documentary and library method, articles, magazines and also content available on the World Wide Web have been used to collect data and information.
