One of the sources of knowledge introduced by the Usūlis is reason, enjoying its special place in the structure of the field of Usūl. However, neither its role nor its contribution has received sufficient attention as it deserves, despite the fact that in order to promote jurisprudence, first, the field of Usūl must be strengthened and in order to strengthen the field of Usūl, it is necessary to strengthen the role and position of reason in the field of principles of jurisprudence. Master Javādi Āmoli believes that regarding the reason, the right path has not been taken, in two aspects: first, in terms of its role, because reason is the light, not the way, therefore, reason enjoys no function but discovering the rule. Based on this, to consider reason as one of the sources of divine rules along with the Book and Tradition is a confusion between the light and the way.
