Words with diacritical marks in the Qur’anic commentary, No. 11930,at the Islamic Assembly Library

The MS No. 11930 at the Library of the Islamic Assembly (scribed in 898 H/1493) is a diacritically- copied manuscript of Qur’anic exegesis. With respect to several indications, such as the archaic language and oldness of the MS, it is assumed to belong to the 12th or 13th century. This MS is one of the important manuscripts, in which words are provided with diacritical marks, this playing a remarkable role not only in the precise reading of the words but it can also demonstrate how the words were pronounced by the author of the commentary. The present article addresses some of the rare and diacritically written words in the Commentary that appear with a different pronunciation in Persian dictionaries.
