The Components of Worldly and Otherworldly Happiness from the View of the Holy Quran
Happiness is among the most important human wishes and concerns, and have been a controversial topic among different schools of thought. This descriptive-analytical study investigated the components of happiness from the view of the Holy Quran, and categorized those components as the following groups, according to the related words and concepts in the Holy Quran as well as its attention to worldly and otherworldly life: worldly happiness, otherworldly happiness, and common components between worldly and otherworldly happiness. From the view of the Holy Quran, the most important components of worldly happiness are as follows: physical and spiritual health; having worldly and material blessings; having power, dominance, and victory over enemy; salvation from oppression and the dominance of oppressors; and having a righteous society. The components of otherworldly happiness include salvation from the torment of Hell and entering Paradise; having eternal life and Paradise blessings; the weight of the scale of deeds; happiness; special joy in the Hereafter; and the nearness to God. The common components between worldly and otherworldly happiness are as follows: having faith and faithful life; enjoying divine mercy; having divine satisfaction; achieving divine guidance; having certainty, joy, and contentment; avoiding impurity; achieving pure life; and enjoying knowledge.
