Abstract:

The objective was to see if the fivefactor personality test of Neo and the SCL-90-R, which are used to diagnose psychological symptoms, could predict people's desire to use hallucinogenic substances. In this study, we had a general hypothesis and three specific hypotheses. Our general hypothesis was that there are significant positive correlations between the five personality traits evaluated by Neo and the symptomatic dimensions evaluated by SCL-90-R. To test this hypothesis, we asked people online to answer the two tests and a researcher-made demographic questionnaire for those who have used hallucinogenic substances at least once and those who had not used them at all. When the number of respondents reached 100 (a total of 200), we stopped the request. Logistic Regression analysis showed that of the five personality factors of the neo test, only two factors had significant correlation with openness and agreeableness with the use of hallucinogenic substances. The other three factors (neuroticism, extraversion, and conscientiousness) did not show a significant correlation. Of the five personality traits, only two traits, openness and agreeableness could predict the inclination of people to use hallucinogenic substances. In the case of symptoms evaluated by SCL90-R, only two features of hostility and interpersonal sensitivity could predict people’s inclination to use hallucinogenic substances
