Abstract:

The popularity of Ferdowsi's Shahnameh (The Book of Kings) and multiplicity of its duplication over the centuries have exposed the original text to a vast array of modifications. Although having a reliable copy of the Shahnameh has always been the concern of readers, manuscripts and its available corrections had often remarkable differences from the poet's ideas until two or three decades ago. The copy edited by Dr. Jalal Khaleghi Motlagh, fully published in mid-2000s, removed the gap significantly and paved the ground for researchers to refine the text. The current study aims to retract a set of five verses in the “Froud” story of Siavash in the kingdom of Kaykhosrow which have been so far incorrectly recorded in all corrections, with one exception. In the process of retracting these verses, the authors seeks to draw the readers’ attention to a number of important grammatical and linguistic subjects involved.Further, they raise some considerations about limits and restrictions of using double pronunciations of some words in the Shahnameh.
