Child Punishment from the Perspective of Quranic Verses, Narrations and Fiqh
Punishment is one of the educational and nurturing methods that could be a deterrent, in certain situations, and sometimes leads to modification of child’s behavior. Therefore, it is placed in the category of positive treatments, and conducting it may have the significant effects on educational and nurturing success. On the other hand, the application of this method is effective if it is used in specific circumstances and in accordance with different aspects. Otherwise, the destructive effects of it will be much more than its positive effects, that leads the punishment on the category of the negative and harmful ways of educating and nurturing the children. The permissibility or impermissibility of corporal (physical) punishment and the range of it, the perspective of the Quran, Hadith, Narrations, and Shiite jurists and also their analysis and research have been discussed. Applying this method requires observance of the principles and rules that if neglected, there will be serious and irreparable damage.
