To investigate the situation and its trade development and its exportation in 19th century.
Archival documents and library resources were consulted to collect data for analysis.
Until the mid-19th-century carpet weaving was mainly a rural occupation and was traded within the domestic market. However, following an increase in demand from western countries and considerable investment by Iranian and foreign companies, the Persian carpet industry flourished and turned into a global business. In the second half of the century, Persian carpets were exported via neighboring countries or directly to Europe and US.
