Evaluation of Stationary Parking Situation of the Hakim Nazari Street in Birjand city Based on the Traffic Studies

The rapid growth of the population cause the geographical expansion of cities. In such cities, the intra-urban transportation system is important and should be designed in such a way to maximize the efficiency of service to citizens. For this purpose, mostly the current traffic management is considered, and the other part of urban traffic, stationary traffic (parked vehicles) and its effects on current traffic, is less considered. Today, one of the major problems in the traffic management is the stationary traffic, which is more complicated in big cities. In Birjand, due to the city growth and population jump growth in recent years and also the lack of planning for this growth, speciallyin the central regions of the city has been encountered citizens with serious problems. One of the most important of these problems is the traffic congestion and parking spaces of the city's central streets. In this study, a case study was conducted on Hakim Nazari Street in Birjand, which field sampling was performed and then statistical analyzes were carried out. After analyzing and assessment of street parking information and discovery of the parking pattern on the street, the final solution for solving the lack of parking space is the construction of non-marginal parking. Because, based on the results obtained, more marginal park space is occupied by long-term applicants who are the owners of the shopping and residential centers of the street, and the share of applicants for shopping trips is low.
