Assessing the Sociological Components of the Security Feeling (with Emphasis on Subcultures) with a Crime Reduction Approach in Urban Designing (Case Study: Main Street in “Rajaei Shahr”, Karaj)
Nowadays, paying attention to crime prevention through environmental design and making it operational to achieve security and security feeling is one of the most important priorities in the field of urban design. From this perspective, and considering the spread of various crimes in the country, the present study has examined the issue of crime prevention with the aim of assessing the sociological components of security feeling with emphasis on subcultures in the main street of "Rajaei Shahr" district of Karaj.
The descriptive-analytical research method was based on statistical analysis and guided by library studies, observation and using questionnaire. The questionnaire had 35 questions and developed for 320 respondents. Image-based analysis is a multivariate regression test, semantic differentiation technique and data output in SPSS.
As far as physical design dimension is concerned, indicators effective in crime such as crowd, security, maintenance, darkness, care, control, congestion, and in the sociological dimension; indicators such as modernity, social cohesion, violence, emotional rupture, migration, local sympathy are in poor conditions.
According to the findings, planning made on sociological dimension, such as: identifying those who have immigrated to metropolitan cities and determining the reason for migration (at least in new immigrants) and preparing immigrants profiles, paying special attention to the emotional disconnection of the young generation from their environment, strengthening neighborhood social capital in local partnerships, and planning made on physical design of the environment, including: access control, protection of territory, and providing adequate lighting, would reduce crime in the urban space and, consequently, would create a safe city in the study area.
