Abstract:

The historiography of Ashura has always been considered by scholars throughout history as one of the most effective ways to protect and preserve the high values of Karbala. Since Ashura works are not devoid of weaknesses, it is necessary to study the accuracy of the content of these works. One of the periods that has been considered due to the unprecedented growth of Muqatil writing as well as the abundance of textual harms in Ashura works, is the Qajar government period. The main issue of this research is how we can find existing textual harms in the Muqatil of the Qajar period. Clear and efficient criteria to know how to distinguish these harms has been introduced and explained in this article. Based on the considerations, it can be concluded that criteria such as common sense, the dignity, the element of honour seeking of Imam Hussein (AS) and Ahl al-Bayt (AS), sociology of related cities to the event, and the intellectual and religious beliefs of that era are of the most important criteria for assessing the textual pathology of Ashura news in Muqatil of the Qajar period.
