Investigating the Role of Social Media Use and Academic Engagement on Academic Performance of Athletic Students
The purpose of this study was to investigate the role of social media use and academic involvement in academic performance of athletic students. The research method was of correlation type. The statistical population consisted of the players of selected national student teams (soccer, futsal, handball, volleyball, and wrestling). To investigate the variables of the present study, the conceptual model of Alshuaibi et al. (2018) was used. To analyze the data, Regression analysis was employed. The results showed that use of social media had a significant effect on academic performance of -0.889. The results of stepwise regression showed that among the components of academic involvement, emotional involvement had the greatest influence on the academic performance of athletic students. As a first step, emotional conflict regression was able to predict 28% of athletic students' academic performance.
