The effectiveness of solution-oriented couple therapy on marital conflict and boredom
Couples need to learn new ways of communicating with each other and change the basic assumptions that bind them and their spouse together. When couples fail to do this, intimacy and mutual commitment are broken and marital boredom develops. At this time, the basis of the couple's intimacy must be reformed. Improving intimacy requires examining intrapersonal and interpersonal dynamics; Therefore, the present study aimed to determine the effectiveness of solution-oriented couple therapy on marital conflict and marital boredom of couples.
The present study was quasi-experimental with experimental and control groups and pre-test design, post-test with one month follow-up. The statistical population in the present study included couples who had referred to the counseling center of the mobile group in Region 2 of Tehran due to conflicts and communication problems between April and May 2017. After screening with the Marital Conflict and Marital Boredom Scale and the initial survey (interview), 20 couples were randomly selected as a research sample, 10 couples (couple) in the experimental group and 10 couples (couple) in the control group. Couples in the experimental group received McDonald's solution-centered couple therapy intervention (2007) for eight 90-minute sessions as a group, and couples in the control group were placed on a waiting list. Both groups answered the marital conflict and marital boredom questionnaires in three stages: pre-test, post-test and follow-up. Descriptive statistics and repeated measures analysis of variance were used to analyze the obtained data.
The results showed that solution-oriented couple therapy significantly reduced the rate of marital conflict (F = 10.68, p = 0.002) and marital boredom (F = 13.58, p = 0.001) and the results It was also stable in the follow-up phase.
Based on the findings, it can be concluded that couple therapy reduces the axis of marital conflict and marital boredom in couples.
