Effects of using social networks at the workplace on the employees’ job consequences of Sport and Youth departments in Golestan province

Abstract:
Purpose

The main purpose of this study was to study effects of using social networks at the workplace on the employees’ job consequences of Sport and Youth departments in Golestan province . Population and Sample: The present study was a descriptive-field survey. The statistical population included all employees of the Sport and Youth departments of Golestan province and it equals to 220 employees which according to Cochran formula, 141 employees were selected by stratified random sampling as a statistical sample .Instrument: To collect research data, questionnaires of using social networks at the workplace of Barker et al. (2013), knowledge sharing of Rahman & Husssin (2014), employees learning of Barker et al. (2013), Job inattention of Zwarun & Hall (2014), Lack of Time Management of Landers & Callan (2014), and ostracism of Chung & Kim (2017) were used. To analyze the data and identify the effects of research variables, structural equation modeling was applied .

Results

The results indicate that using social networks at the workplace affects the knowledge sharing of employees. The effect of using social networks at the workplace on employees' learning was positive and significant. The results showed that the use of social networks at the workplace had a positive and significant effect on job inattention. The effect of using social networks at the workplace on the lack of time management of employees was also positive and significant. Finally, the positive and significant effect of using social networks at the workplace on the employees’ ostracism was confirmed .

Conclusion

According to the results, it can be stated that the use of social networks in the workplace can have negative and positive job consequences; Therefore, having specific rules regarding the use of social networks in the organizational environment of sports and youth departments is recommended.
