Abstract:

Apart from superstructure chains in the structure of myths, other points such as "numbers" and their function are involved in their construction. The present study, in a descriptive-analytical approach, has extracted the numbers used in the fifteen myths of Azerbaijan, and then dealt with the quality of their dissemination in popular beliefs in three sections of "less than ten, decimal, and compound". Out of 26 numbers with 462 repetitions, the proportion was 71% for the first group, 23% for the second group, and 6% for the last group. "One" in the counting unit position, "forty" for the celebration, and "twelve" for the group are the most abundant numbers and functions in each category. Numbers have commonalities in their multiples. The other finding is that the epic or love theme of myths has a two-way relationship with the chosen number. Composite and ironic combinations also indicate the presence of numbers in the linguistic structure of myths.
