Rhythmical Verses in Quran and Their Role of Adding the Factor of Intention in Defining Arabic Poetry
Unregarding of the logic scientists' definition that says that the essence of poetry is imagery, prosody scientists define poetry as a rhythmic and rhymic discourse, which its main characteristic is rhythm. Besides, contrary to the opinion of the polytheists at the Islamic advent that says Quran is poetry and called Prophet Mohammed a poet, Quran totally rejected this perspective and purified the prophet from this claim. The important point here is that among Quranic verses and prophetic narrations we can find parts and phrases, which are rhythmic. Therefore, most of the Arabic prosody scientists tried to define poetry in a way that these qur’anic verses and prophetic words have been considered out of this definition. As a result of that they added intention to the definition of poetry so that if a speech becomes rhythmic without intention it will be unregarded as poetry. So, depending on this definition, we concluded in this descriptive analytical study that Quranic verses and prophetic words which are unintentionally rhythmic cannot be considered as poetry.
