The Effectiveness of Short-Term Psychoanalysis Treatment In Decreasing Psychological Distress and Psychosomatic Symptoms in Patients with Gastrointestinal Dysfunction with Personality Type D
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of short-term psychoanalysis on psychological distress and psychosomatic symptoms in patients with gastrointestinal dysfunction with personality type D.
This research was an experimental study with the pre and post-test with a control group and with a two-month follow-up design. The statistical population in this study was all female patients with gastrointestinal functional disorders (FGID) with personality type D who in 2020 referred to the Hamdame Hamrah Psychiatric and Psychotherapeutic Services Center located in Tehran. The statistical sample consisted of 24 female patients who were selected by available sampling method and randomly assigned to experimental and control groups (12 patients for each group).Data were collected using Personality Type Scale D (DS-14), ROME III Questionnaire and Mental Anxiety and Stress-Anxiety-Depressive Symptoms (DASS-21). Data analysis was performed using analysis of variance tests with repeated measures in SPSS-19.
The results indicated that short-term psychoanalytic treatment had a significant effect on reducing psychological distress and psychosomatic symptoms.
Short-term psychoanalytic treatment is effective on psychological distress and psychosomatic symptoms of patients with gastrointestinal dysfunction with personality type D and can be used to improve the psychological problems of patients with gastrointestinal dysfunction.
