The frames of mind emphasized and neglected in the Curriculum and Teaching of Civil Engineering Master Students based on their Lived Educational Experience

Abstract:

The purpose of this study is to identify and analyze the educational experiences of civil engineering graduate students with an emphasis on the dimensions of the mind in order to improve the quality of engineering education. The approach of this research is qualitative and of the phenomenological method. Therefore, based on purposive sampling, 18 graduate students of civil engineering were interviewed. The obtained data were analyzed using the Colaizzi method. The findings of this study indicated that the disciplined-oriented mind, the creative mind, and the respectful mind were emphasized in civil engineering students and the ethical-oriented mind and the synthesizing mind were neglected in civil engineering students. The factors affecting it are poor student performance, the poor performance of the industrial system, the poor performance of civil engineering education, lack of emphasis on external integration by the professor, lack of emphasis on internal integration by the student.
