The Competencies of a Special Education Teacher Student

This research defines the scope and level of competency of special education teachers and its validation. In this research, a mixed research design was used, so that in the qualitative part, the method of documentary research and qualitative content analysis with a deductive approach with unstructured matrix was used. In a small part, the validation of competencies was done through the formation of focus groups consisting of 10 special education specialists and the development of 12 criteria. A systematic review method was used to search and collect scientific texts and articles. Also, semi-structured interviews were conducted with experts and specialists in the education of exceptional children, employers of the organization and departments of exceptional education, and faculty members of Teacher Training University. The sample members were purposefully selected and repeated after interviews with 21 people. As the results of this study reveals, slthough the definitions of competency, its scope and level vary according to the goals of the profession and different fields in different countries and societies, this systematic review showed comprehensive discussions in five areas and 47 sub-categories.
