Ageing, gender and intersectionality: Ageing in cultural and gender studies
Ageing can be studied from different theoretical perspectives. In this article, the author has taken the approach of cultural Gerontology, to provide explanation of ageing in feminist, intersectionality, and postmodern theories, to promote conceptual and theoretical knowledge in ageing studies. Also, the theoretical insights produced in this field, can be used in the social and cultural policies of the elderly. Cultural, feminist, and postmodern Gerontology show the diversity, multiplicity, and complexity of the ageing experience and by adopting such an approach in ageing studies, it is possible to gain an understanding of the voices, narratives, and lived experiences of diverse, vulnerable and marginalized groups of the elderly. These approaches represent a fluid and multiple ageing. The experience of ageing in Iranian society also indicates a heterogeneous and multiple experience and we can’t talk about uniform and homogeneous ageing in Iranian society. Ageing based on gender differences and inequalities is a multiple experience; in addition, Ageing is also experienced in a variety of ways, at the intersection with gender and other structural components such as class status, health status, and ethnic and cultural differences. Finally, it can be said that considering these social and cultural differences and inequalities in the analysis of the issue of ageing is very important and necessary.
