Analysis of planing boat behavior in oblique wave by numerical method

Abstract:
The use of high-speed planing vessels has been developing and along with the development of their application, research and development of knowledge related to different areas of these vessels, including hydrodynamic analysis is being developed. Today, with the development of computers and the development of simulation software, much research in the field of vessel hydrodynamics is done by numerical simulation. In this paper, a planing vessel is investigated using STAR-CCM+ commercial software in regular oblique wave conditions with different directions. To validate the results, due to the fact that in the published articles, there was no laboratory test or similar simulation in oblique wave conditions, the simulation validation was performed using laboratory test results in headsea condition. In the planing boat behavior, it was observed that by deviating the wave from the headsea condition, the intensity of the slamming impact is reduced until the slamming impact is eliminated and the acceleration behavior approaches the linear state. The effect of the oblique wave on the heave and pitch is less and with increasing the deviation of the wave from the headsea condition, the amplitude of roll increases.
