Construction of Local and Cultural Identity in the Context of Generations A Qualitative Study of Three Generations of Bandar Abbas’ Citizens

Abstract:
According to the procedures of developments, plurality of cultures and the growth of urban modernization, local identity has become divergent from its primitive form and it is in fact undergoing constant changes. On the other side of the coin, this issue has a special notion among the generations. Additionally, present research takes into account the methods of constructive local identity rooted in cultural elements among Bandar Abbas’ citizens. The qualitative methodology devised in this study and required Data composed of semi-structured interview with 28 individuals include Men & Women ranging from 20 to 65 years old. The findings reflect generational differences upon constructive local identity and confrontation with. In fact, the first generation (over 50 years old) has a uniform and cohesive cultural-indigenous identity and resists new identities. The second group (31-50 years) puts elements of both indigenous and non-indigenous identities together, and finally the younger generation (20-30 years) has constructed its cultural identity in an incoherent and dual way.
