Predicting the Improvement of Generalized Anxiety Symptoms Based on Tolerance of Turbulence, Tolerance of Uncertainty, Cognitive Avoidance in Patients Referred to Medical Centers in Isfahan in 2020-2021.
The aim of this study was to predict the improvement in the symptoms of generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) based on tolerance of turbulence, tolerance of uncertainty, and cognitive avoidance in patients referred to Isfahan medical centers .
The present study was a descriptive correlational analysis. A sample of 129 patients with generalized anxiety disorder ( DSM5 ) in Isfahan were selected by sequential non-probability sampling method. Research tools included the GAD-7 Questionnaire, Simmons and Gahr (2005), Freeston et al. (IUS) (1994), and Sexton and Dagas (2004) were used. Pearson correlation coefficient and stepwise regression analysis were used to analyze the data using SPSS26 software.
The results showed that the extent of improvement of generalized anxiety symptoms had direct and significant relationship with perturbation tolerance (P <0.01) and inverse and significant relationship with tolerance of uncertainty (P<0.01). However there was not significant relationship between improvement of GAD and cognitive avoidance (P >0.05).
Based on the research results, it can be said that increasing anxiety tolerance and decreasing uncertainty tolerance affect the improvement of GAD. The cognitive avoidance variable had little effect.
