Spatial analysis of drug crimes in Ahvaz city

Abstract:
Background and Purpose

The increase in crime is becoming one of the most important social problems that affects not only public safety but also health, education, child development and the socio-economic status of adults. The present study was conducted with the aim of spatial analysis of drug crimes in Ahvaz city.

Method

This research is of applied type and its method is descriptive-analytical. In order to identify the spatial pattern of drug crimes in Ahvaz city, geographic location data has been collected from relevant departments and organizations. Finally, the descriptive and spatial data were stored as layers in the geographic information system. In order to identify and understand the spatial pattern of drug crimes in the city, statistical and graphic models were used in the geographic information system (GIS) environment.

Findings

The results of spatial statistics have shown the centers of drug-related crimes in Ahvaz city.

Conclusion

Based on these results, crimes in Ahvaz follow a cluster pattern. The most sensitive area in the western part of the river includes police station 21 (Ain Do), police station 17 (Koi Alavi) and police station 28 (Malashieh), which are among the marginal areas of Ahvaz city.
