Re-identifying the author of the commentary ascribed to Imam Ḥasan ʿAskarī(AS)

The commentary ascribed to Imam Ḥasan ibn Ali ʿAskarī (AS) is one of the earlier Shi'a narrative interpretations in the third century. There are controversies about this exegesis and it has been criticized by both earlier and later Imamiyyah scholars. Accordingly. the baseless and incorrect content of this exegesis, its related controversies as well as proving its non-attribution to the eleventh Imam arise some questions; if the current commentary isn't ascribed to Imam Ḥasan ʿAskarī or his magnanimous father, who is its real author? What evidence is there to suggest its attribution to a particular person or show its author is unknown? So, the present study tries to identify the author of this commentary. The textual indications of the exegesis as well as the historical documents show that the real author of the exegesis is Ḥasan ibn Ali ʿAskarī entitled 'Nāṣir Lilḥaq Utrūsh', the leader of the Zaydi sect and the ʿAlavī ruler of Tabaristan.
