Comparative assessment of informal urban settlements with emphasis on the right-to-the-city approach
In recent years, the right-to-the-city approach, as an effective concept in the reproduction of social relations and the right to life, has defined the participation of citizens in shaping their daily self-centered life. Moreover, informal settlements with a high level of deprivation in access to services and various activities of urban life have essential requirements in urban management and planning.
Objectives:
The present study, with an applied purpose and a descriptive-analytical method, tries to the comparative evaluation of study areas from the perspective of access and enjoyment of the components of the right approach to the city.
The research is applied in terms of purpose and descriptive-analytical in terms of content. Data collection is through interviews, observation and questionnaires. Test analysis was performed based on samples from groups of urban experts and citizens based on Swara, Friedman and Vikor techniques.
Geographical Context:
Koshtargah and Islamabad 2 neighborhoods of Urmia, are the two sites of the study area.
The findings showed that the components of difference in the provision of public services and effectiveness have the highest and lowest levels of importance, respectively.
Islamabad 2 neighborhood is in a better position than the Koshtargah neighborhood in having the right-to-the-city indicators.
